Abstract:
In order to reduce fuel consumption in a hybrid railway vehicle in situations in which power to make small movements within a station or within a depot is not required, this railway vehicle drive system comprises: first and second main circuit systems, each of which has a converter that changes the voltage or frequency of electric power supplied by a power supply device and that outputs DC power on a DC stage, an inverter that converts DC power on a DC stage to AC power for driving an AC electric motor, and a power storage device that charges and discharges the DC power on the DC stage; and a switch that connects the DC stages of the first and second main circuit systems, the railway vehicle drive system having a first operation mode in which the switch opens and each of the first and second main circuit systems is driven independently, and a second operation mode in which the switch closes and the converter of either the first or second main circuit system and the inverters and power storage devices of each of the first and second main circuit systems are driven.
