Abstract:
Provided are a random access method and apparatus in a wireless communication system. The method comprises: receiving indication information from a base station, and initiating random access under a first coverage level indicated by the indication information; when it is determined that the number of times that the random access initiated under the first coverage level fails reaches a threshold for the number of random access times corresponding to the first coverage level, randomly selecting a first access resource from competitive access resources corresponding to a second coverage level, wherein the second coverage level is higher than the first coverage level; and initiating random access under the second coverage level by utilising the randomly selected first access resource. By means of the embodiments in the present invention, the problem of high coverage level random access failure when a coverage level needs to be improved because a terminal has failed to initiate random access on a PRACH resource designated by a base station a plurality of times is solved, thus achieving the effect of increasing the success rate of the base station initiating random access.
