Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing a rare earth magnetic material wherein Dy and the like can be efficiently diffused inside the rare earth magnetic material. The method for producing a rare earth magnetic material comprises: a preparation step for preparing a mixed powder by mixing neodymium fluoride powder and a magnetic powder formed from one or more rare earth elements that include neodymium, boron, and iron as the balance; and a heating step for heating the mixed powder in order to react the fluoride powder and oxygen present around the magnetic powder particles and to promote the growth and distribution of neodymium oxyfluoride, not just at the surface of the rare earth magnetic material but throughout the entirety thereof including the inside, and thereby obtain a rare earth magnetic material in bulk form. The fluoride powder is fixed as stable NdOF by capturing the oxygen enclosed in the mixed powder. When the Dy diffuses through the rare earth magnetic material, the Dy smoothly proceeds inside the rare earth magnetic material without being oxidized at the particle boundary, etc. As a result, the coercive force of the entire rare earth magnetic material can be efficiently increased without wasting the rare Dy.
