Abstract:
A raw material for aluminum refining, characterized in that it comprises a peritectic element forming a peritectoid with aluminum and boron, wherein it contains boron in an amount being excessive by 5 to 80 mass ppm to a total chemical equivalent calculated as a metal boride with the peritectic element; and a method for aluminum refining, which comprises melting the raw material for aluminum refining in a melting furnace (1) into a molten metal, reacting a peritectic element in the molten metal with boron to form a metal boride in a reacting chamber (2A), removing the metal boride formed in the chamber together with the metal boride formed in the previous step. Further, in purification chambers (2B, 2C, 2D, 2E), is crystallized a high purity aluminum from which a peritectic element containing unreacted boron is removed by segregation.
