Abstract:
The invention relates to rear projection screens comprising at least one light-diffusing polymethylmethacrylate layer which has a thickness ranging between 0.05 and 4 mm and contains spherical plastic particles having a size ranging between 5 and 35 ñm at a concentration ranging from 2 to 60 percent by weight relative to the total weight of the light-diffusing polymethylmethacrylate layer, said spherical plastic particles having a refractive index that differs by 0.02 to 0.2 from that of the polymethylmethacrylate matrix. The concentration of the spherical plastic particles cP, the thickness of the light-diffusing polymethylmethacrylate layer ds, and the size of the spherical plastic particles Dp are selected such that the ratio cP*ds/Dp<3> ranges between 0.0015 and 0.015 percent by weight *mm/ñm<3> while the ratio between the mean surface roughness of the polymethylmethacrylate layer Ra and the size of the spherical plastic particles DP ranges between 0.05 and 0.4. The inventive rear projection screens are characterized by a particularly high quality of the illustrations which are projected thereupon.
