Abstract:
Disclosed is a receiving device that: receives, over a network, a piece of digital content including a video signal and an audio signal that have been subjected to digital compression encoding, and convertibility information indicating whether or not it is possible to convert the encoding scheme of the content or the bit rate; and displays alternatives for selecting whether or not to perform the conversion if the convertibility information indicates that the conversion is possible, and does not display the alternatives if the convertibility information indicates that the conversion is not possible.
