Abstract:
According to the present invention, good transmission is made of high-frame-rate image data having backward compatibility. On the transmission side, encoded image data of pictures in an extension layer is acquired by performing interlayer prediction encoding process while image data obtained by performing a reverse-mixing process on image data of pictures in a base layer having been subjected to a mixing process, is used as image data of reference pictures, and a mixing process is performed in an encoder such that image data of pictures in the base layer is acquired. On the reception side, when an interlayer prediction decoding process is performed on pictures in an extension layer, image data obtained by performing a reverse-mixing process on the image data of pictures in a base layer is used as image data of reference pictures, and a reverse-mixing process is performed on the image data of pictures in a base layer in a decoder.
