Description:
RECIEVER ATTACHABLE OBJECT SELECTOR FOR A JIB

Technical Field

The present invention is related to a receiver attachable object selector which carries imaging device and which enables guiding of said imaging devices mounted on counter weighted jib systems used to enable shooting of images from different angles.

Prior Art

Equipments used in either motion photo or video shoots, nowadays namely known with the brand Jimmy Jib are used in the fields of cinema and photography. These equipments basically carry the weight of the camera mounted on the long arm by means of supporting it with counter weights mounted on the short arm. By this means, it is enabled for the camera to move towards several different positions without causing any difficulty for the cameraman.

It is unavoidable for the perspective, in other words the frame to change direction continuously during the guiding of the camera with a jib arm. Various motors are used in order to move the imaging device itself in 2 axes in order to direct the frame when it is located in said different positions. The invention described in the Chinese patent application numbered CN103196014A can be shown as an example.

Besides these, mechanical designs have been developed which enable the camera to stay parallel to the ground plane all the time and such a design has been described in another Chinese patent application numbered CN202794809U.

Moreover the most basic patent applications that can be shown as consecutive applications to the present patent application are the applications numbered TR2013 13723, TR2013 13724, TR2013 13725, TR2013 13726, TR2013 13727, TR2014 02460, TR2014 02469, TR2014 02472 and TR2014 02475 which have also been carried out by the applicant of the present invention.

Brief Description of the invention

l The aim of the invention is, to enable the jib according to the invention can be used with any kind of jib system onto which a receiver attachable object selector can be mounted and, to develop a receiver group which can be mounted on said jib system. The invention also aims to develop a control module which interprets the angular data of the jib produced by the receiver group. The final aim of the invention is to be able to produce the necessary data in order to move the jib for the camera to be able to focus on any kind of object according to the changed position of the camera which has been changed by the jib by means of the data produced by the control module.

Detailed Description of the Invention The receiver attachable object selector developed in order to reach the aims of the invention has been illustrated in the attached drawings wherein;

Figure 1- is the schematic view of the receiver attachable object selector together with the jib shown from two different positions.

Figure 2- is the schematic view of the jib and the camera. References of the part numbers shown in the figures;

4. 2 Axis guide 5. Receiver

6. Centre

7. Arm length

8. Control module

The distance controlled object targeting jib (1) subject to the invention, basically comprises a receiver (5) and a control module (8) which can be mounted on any kind of jib arm (2). Several jib systems that are used nowadays comprise 2 axis guides (4) that are used to guide the camera (3). The control of said guides are performed by means of the joystick found on the control module (8) and the capturing of an image (O) within a frame is carried out by an operator. As the frame of the camera (3) will be looking at another direction when the operator moves the jib arm (2) it is unavoidable to use a joystick in order to focus onto an object (O). The camera (3) can get any object (O) in the vicinity into the frame by panning and tilting via 2 axis guides (4). Due to both the complicacy of control and the requirement of the rate to vary, the operator needs an assistant during this procedure. In order for a camera (3) to be able to follow any kind of object (O) continuously, first of all the changed position of the camera (3) in relation to its initial position must be known. Following this if the position of any fixed object (O) is known, it can be enabled for the camera to a single object (O) in the frame continuously while the camera (3) moves from the initial position to the second position. A receiver (5) measuring the angular motions at a vertical and horizontal axis at the point to which the camera (3) is linked will be used in order to determine the position change information of the camera (3). This receiver (5) is able to determine the position changes at the vertical and horizontal axis by means of a gyroscope, compass and accelerometer. However in order to be able to convert this information into angular change information the arm length (7) of the arm (2) which rotates around the centre (6) needs to be known. The reason for this is that jib systems provide the movement of the camera (3) on a globe whose centre is taken to be the centre (6), it is not possible to determine the position on the globe using only the linear position change information.

By means of the arm length (7) information, the control module (8), can determine the distance travelled by the camera (3) on the globe between the initial position and the second position by using the information obtained from the measuring devices that the receiver (5) comprises. In order for the camera (3), to be able to follow any predetermined object (O)during its movement to different positions, is driven by the 2 axis guide (4) control module (8). During these procedures, as mentioned above, the position of the object (O) must also be known. When an object (O) is present at the perspective of the camera (3), by means of the feedback that can be obtained from the 2 axis guide (4), the mathematical formula of a beam directed to the object (O) from the globe can be known. If the distance information (D) between the object (O) and the camera (3) is also incorporated in this formula, the position of the object (O) can also be definitely determined.

The control (8) module enables the camera (3) to continuously follow the object (O) using the arm length (7), the distance (D) between the camera (3) and the object (O), the angular values that the camera (3) has been guided to by the 2 axis guide (4) and the information supplied by the receiver (5) during the movement of the camera (3).

The control module (8) can have access to an object selector jib (1) by the attachment of the 2 axis guide (4) and the receiver (5) onto any kind of jib system.
