Abstract:
The present invention relates to a recombinant yeast for producing 2,3-butanediol and a method for producing 2,3-butanediol by using the same. The present invention introduces, into a yeast, Candida tropicalis-derived pyruvate decarboxylase having lower activity than pyruvate decarboxylase, which is possessed by the yeast itself, such that acetyl-CoA synthesis is possible even if ethanol acting as a by-product in 2,3-butanediol production is not produced, thereby enabling the growth rate of the yeast and the substrate consumption rate to increase. Therefore, the present invention ultimately can greatly improve the productivity of 2,3-butanediol. The present invention relates to a method for producing 2,3-butanediol. A conventional technique for producing 2,3-butanediol by using Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) allows the production of a large amount of glycerol as a by-product together with the production of 2,3-butanediol. However, the yeast strain of the present invention enables the production of high-purity 2,3-butanediol with high yield and high productivity in a state in which the production of glycerol, which is a by-product, is inhibited.
