Abstract:

In order to achieve efficient access when readout-failed data is recovered with an RMW during a data rewrite, a recording device comprises a control unit and a write-in/readout unit that can write data into a recording medium in second data units consisting of a plurality of consecutive first data units of a prescribed data amount, and that can read data of first data units out from the recording medium. In compliance with a data rewrite instruction, the control unit uses data for updating according to the rewrite instruction and already recorded data read out from the recording medium to create write-in data of the second data units, instructs the write-in/readout unit to write the write-in data to an unrecorded address on the recording medium, and plays back or updates replacement information assigned to an original address with the address having the write-in data written in used as a replacement. In compliance with a prescribed condition, the control unit also creates, as information associated with the replacement information, expansion replacement information including effective/ineffective information for each piece of data of the first data units in the write-in data.
