Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method by which it is possible to efficiently recover rare earth elements from a substance to be treated that includes at least a rare earth element and an iron group element, and by which it is possible to use a treatment container repeatedly over a long period by suppressing wear and damage to the container. This method, which serves as a solution to the problem, is characterized in that when heat treating, in the presence of carbon, a substance to be treated that has been oxidized, a carbon substance is interposed between the oxidized substance to be treated and the bottom container surface while the oxidized substance to be treated is housed in the treatment container, and in that heat treatment is performed at a temperature of 1300°C or higher in an atmosphere of inert gas or in a vacuum.
