Abstract:
Provided is a reduced iron production method which can provide good heat input to reduced iron starting materials on a hearth 18 in a reduction-melting furnace 10 and which can improve the efficiency of treatment thereof. The reduced iron starting materials 2 are dropped so as to be set on the hearth 18 and reduction treated on the hearth 18. The hearth 18 is configured from charcoal materials each having a particle size of not more than 5 mm. At least 7% by mass of the charcoal materials has a particle size of not more than 0.1 mm. This prevents the reduced iron starting materials 2 from being embedded in the hearth 18.
