Abstract:
This disclosure provides a reflective optical scale for an encoder, the reflective optical scale including, in the thickness direction and in the stated order: a high-reflection layer; a protective layer; and a low-reflection layer that is provided in a pattern. The reflective optical scale also includes: a low-reflection region being a region in which the low-reflection layer is provided; and a high-reflection region being a region in which the protective layer is exposed. The following formula (1) is satisfied if the film thickness of the protective layer is defined as d (µm), and the incident angle of incident light hitting the protective layer is defined as θ (°). d = mλ / [2n × cos {Arcsin (sinθ/n)}] (1) (in this formula, n is the refractive index of the protective layer, λ is the wavelength (µm) of the incident light, and m is a number satisfying the relationship 0 < m ≤ 0.3, or p – 0.3 ≤ m ≤ p + 0.3 (p being an integer between 1 and 3, inclusive).)
