In an open joint structure in which an isobaric space, the pressure in which is equal to that of the outside air, is formed so as to prevent the water from entering the joint of curtain walls, at least a pair of vertically extending grooves (11, 11) are provided in opposition to each other in the portions of the vertical headers of curtain walls W which are close to the outer surfaces thereof, a heat-shielding plate (10) which has air vents (13) in the side portions thereof being thereafter fixed to the inner surfaces of these grooves so as to divide the above-mentioned isobaric space into an isobaric space (A) which extends on the outer side of the curtain walls and is limited by the outer surface of the heat-shielding plate (10), and which has the flame-shielding functions, and an isobaric space (B) which is formed between the heat-shielding plate (10) and a pair of seals of a fixed shape (20, 20), and which has the radiant heat-shielding functions, to thereby furnish the open joint structure with the waterproofing functions and fireproofing functions, which are contradictory to each other in a method of constructing the same structure.
