This refrigerant evaporator is provided with a first core section (11), a second core section (21), a first plate (51), and a second plate (52). The first core section and the second core section respectively include a plurality of first tubes (15) and a plurality of second tubes (25), the first and second tubes (15, 25) extending in the tube longitudinal direction and stacked in the tube stacking direction which is perpendicular to the tube longitudinal direction. The first plate contains one end of each of the plurality of first tubes and one end of each of the plurality of second tubes. The second plate faces the first core section and the second core section in the tube longitudinal direction with the first plate located therebetween and is joined to the first plate. The second plate has a plurality of ribs (523). The plurality of ribs define therein, together with the first plate, a plurality of intermediate flow passages (40). The plurality of intermediate flow passages provide communication between the plurality of first tubes and the plurality of second tubes.
