A refrigerating and freezing device and a control method therefor. The control method comprises: during refrigeration of a freezing chamber of the refrigerating and freezing device, obtaining the temperature of a freezing evaporator and the temperature in the freezing chamber; determining a target change trend of the humidity in the freezing chamber according to the evaporator temperature and the chamber temperature; collecting statistics about actually measured change trends of the chamber humidity according to actually measured humidity in the freezing chamber detected by a humidity sensor; if the continuously collected actually measured change trends are inconsistent with the target change trend, adjusting the operation frequency of a compressor, so that the actual chamber humidity in the freezing chamber changes according to the target change trend; re-collecting statistics about actually measured change trends of the chamber humidity according to the actually measured humidity in the freezing chamber detected by the humidity sensor; and if the continuously re-collected actually measured change trends are still inconsistent with the target change trend, determining that a failure occurs in the humidity sensor.
