A method for detecting filling of the wrong refrigerant in a container refrigeration device (10) equipped with a refrigerant circuit (20), said method being equipped with: a filing step wherein the refrigerant circuit (20) is filled with a refrigerant; a characteristic determination step wherein a determination is made regarding whether the saturation temperature characteristic of the refrigerant, derived from the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant that has been filled in the filling step, is identical to a predetermined saturation temperature characteristic for a prescribed refrigerant; and a reporting step wherein it is reported that the refrigerant that has been filled differs from the prescribed refrigerant, when it has been determined in the characteristic determination step that the saturation temperature characteristics differ.
