Abstract:
A reinforcing fiber composite material characterized by comprising both discontinuous reinforcing fibers containing discontinuous reinforcing fiber assemblies and a matrix resin, wherein a fan-like discontinuous reinforcing fiber assembly (A) having a fan-like shape is contained in an amount of 5% by weight or more in the discontinuous reinforcing fibers, and wherein the fan-like discontinuous reinforcing fiber assembly (A) has such a property that the aspect ratio at at least one end part thereof [i.e., (the width of the discontinuous reinforcing fiber assembly)/(the thickness of the discontinuous reinforcing fiber assembly)] is 1.5 times or more larger than the aspect ratio at a narrowest part at which the width of the discontinuous reinforcing fiber assembly is smallest when the discontinuous reinforcing fiber assembly is projected two-dimensionally. It becomes possible to provide an excellent reinforcing fiber composite material which has a good balance among excellent fluidability during molding, high mechanical properties of a molded product thereof and two-dimensional anisotropy and which rarely undergoes fluctuations in mechanical properties.
