A relay device (40) includes: an NW interface (408) for making a connection with a switching source terminal (20) which is receiving media data transmitted from a media server (10) and a switching destination terminal (30); an information accumulation unit (403) for storing media data processing capability of the switching source terminal (20) and the switching destination terminal (30); a media control unit (401) for requesting a media server (10) to transmit media data in accordance with the processing capability of the information accumulation unit (403) and instructing the media server (10) to acquire the processing capability of the switching destination terminal (30) from the information accumulation unit (403) and transfer the media data based on the acquired processing capability to the switching destination terminal (30); a media reception unit (404) for receiving the media data transmitted from the media server (10); a media buffer (405) for storing the media data; and a media transmission unit (406) for acquiring the media data based on the processing capability of the switching destination terminal (30) and transferring the media data to the switching destination terminal (30).
