Abstract:
A relief valve determining device (90) determines that a relief valve (80) of a high-pressure fuel supply system is in an open state, where the high-pressure fuel supply system is provided with: a fuel injection valve (62); a high-pressure pump (30); a pressure sensor (82) which detects fuel pressure on a discharge side of the high-pressure pump; and the relief valve (80) which, when the discharge side fuel pressure is higher than a valve opening pressure, adopts an open state to cause the discharge side fuel pressure to drop to a prescribed pressure. The relief valve determining device is provided with an estimating unit which estimates the discharge side fuel pressure on the basis of a fuel injection quantity of the fuel injection valve, on the assumption that fuel is not discharged by the high-pressure pump from a time at which the detected fuel pressure changes from a state higher than a first pressure to a state lower than the first pressure, and a determining unit which determines that the relief valve is in an open state on the basis of a mode of reduction in the estimated fuel pressure and a mode of reduction in the detected fuel pressure.
