Abstract:
A remote isolation system (10) for a plant comprises a plurality of plant equipment items (20, 320); and a plant control system (260) in communication with these equipment items (20, 320), for example conveyor belt systems for use in material handling processes. The plant control system (260) enables isolation, from an energy source, of the plant equipment items (20, 320). To this end, the plant control system (260) includes selecting means (265, 1265) for selecting a set of equipment items to be isolated (20. 320); and control means (450) to command isolation of the selected set of plant equipment items (20, 320) following approval by the plant control system (260). The remote isolation system (10) offers advantages in safety, time and cost effective isolation which facilitates plant shutdowns for maintenance or other purposes.
