Abstract:

A reproduction method by a reproduction device for reproducing a video stream recorded in a recording medium, wherein: the recording medium has recorded therein one or more video streams including a High Dynamic Range (HDR) stream in which the dynamic range of the luminance of the video corresponds to a HDR and/or a Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) stream in which the dynamic range of the luminance of the video corresponds to a SDR that is narrower than the HDR, and identification information indicating whether the HDR stream is included in the one or more video streams; and the reproduction method involves reading out the identification information from the recording medium, acquiring reproduction capability information indicating whether the reproduction device can reproduce the HDR stream and display capability information indicating whether a display device connected to the reproduction device can display the HDR video, and determining the video stream to reproduce from among the one or more video streams in accordance with the read-out identification information and the acquired reproduction capability information and display capability information.
