Abstract:

A resin-coated metal pigment that is capable of simultaneous attainment of high water resistance of water base paint and chemical resistance of coating film; and a water base paint making use of the resin-coated metal pigment. There is provided a process for producing a resin-coated metal pigment, comprising the adsorption step of bringing a solution or dispersion of phosphoric ester component (A) into contact with a metal pigment to thereby prepare a phosphoric ester adsorbing metal pigment; the slurry preparation step of preparing a polymerization slurry having polymerization component (B) dissolved therein; and the coating step of polymerizing the polymerization component (B) so as to form a resin coating layer on the surface of the phosphoric ester adsorbing metal pigment. Further, there is provided a resin-coated metal pigment produced by the process, and provided a water base paint making use of the resin-coated metal pigment.
