Description:
DE SC RIPTION

A R E ST ING U NIT EXT E NSION SY ST E M F i el d of the I nventi on

The present invention relates to a resting unit extension system which is used for resting purposes in vehicles and which is extended to provide a more comfortable resting space in case of resting.

Background of the Invention

Heavy commercial vehicles are driven long distances due to their purpose of use and the drivers need to rest in the vehicle by stopping at resting stations or safe areas. For this purpose, there are bunks provided in the vehicles which enable them to rest without getting out of the vehicle. V ehicle sizes are limited by legal regulations and the area to be used in the cabin for driving and as living space is limited. The vehicle cabin is equipped with equipment such as an adjustable seat steering wheel, etc. which are suitably ergonomic for driving comfort and which enable people of different heights to find comfortable and safe driving positions; and comfort of the driver during resting time is also taken care of. For this purpose, it is aimed to provide the largest possible bunk area for use of the driver.

The fixed orvariable bunk area, which is used in the vehicles manufactured today, is in interaction with the other movable equipment in the cabin (such as the seat, storage area, etc.), and I i mits the size of the area to be used for the bunk due to the limited cabin size. The fixed or variable bunk area, which is used in the vehicles manufactured today, is in interaction with the other movable equipment in the cabin (such as the seat, storage area, etc.), and limits the size of the area to be used for the bunk due to the limited cabin size. In this case, it is not possible to extend the bunk area when the driver is using the seat. Since these mechanisms are operated by moving the entire bunk, they are large, heavy and expensive. Additionally, the fact that the extendable part of the bunk area is also situated in the cabin causes placement problems.

International patent document no. WO2006101427, an application known in the state of the art, discloses a bunk area which is enlarged by a method wherein the bunk is moved by foldable parts and hinges. However, this document describes a bunk area which differs in terms of the material of the mattress and the bunk extension method.

In the patent document no. E P2298630B1, an application known in the art, discloses a bunk which is concealed in a profile positioned on the cabin rear wall by the help of a fabric and for which, in cases where it is moved away from the wall by various hinge systems, the gap formed between itself and the wall is suggested to be covered. However, this document describes a bunk area which differs in terms of the material of the mattress and the bunk extension method.

Obj ectives of the Invention

The objective of the present invention is to provide a resting unit extension system which can be used movably/immovably for increasing the bunk area.

Another objective of the present invention is to provide a resting unit extension system whi ch extends by means of a movabl e member pi aced on the seat backrest.

A further objective of the present invention is to provide a resting unit extension system, which provides a larger bunk area in case of resting, and which provides sufficient distance for the seat to move for a more comfortable sitting position during driving. Another objective of the present invention is to provide a resting unit extension system which enables a more comfortable and efficient use during a shared use of areas with limited space. A further objective of the present invention is to provide a resting unit extension system, which, when the bunk and seat systems sharing the same space with each other in the vehicle cabin are used at different times in the same area, enables more efficient use of both of the areas of use. Summary of the Invention

The resting unit extension system (1), which is used for resting purposes in vehicles and which is extended to provide a more comfortable resting space in case of resting, basically comprises

- at I east one resti ng unit (2) whi ch can be extended i n case of resti ng,

- at least one vehicle seat (3) which can be moved for resting and driving modes,

- at least one movement mechanism (4), on which a vehicle seat (3) is arranged, and which is mounted on the cabin floor and enables to move the vehicle seat (3),

- at least one extending member (5) which is placed on the backrest of the vehicle seat (3) and extends the resting unit (2) when moved,

- at least one extending mechanism (6) which enables the resting unit (2) to be extended by moving the extending member (5),

- at least one movement path (7) which is placed on the backrest of the vehicle seat (3) and allows the extending member (5) to move thereon along the direction that it is placed and enables to extend the resting unit (2). In one embodiment of the invention, the resting unit extension system (1) has a resting unit (2) located in the vehicle cabin. While the resting unit (2) can be fixed in the cabin, it can also be in a form which can be folded when not used. U pon folding of the resting unit (2), the usable area in the cabin increases, and the vehicle seats (3) can be brought to a more ergonomic and comfortable state. The vehicle seats (3) are mounted to the cabin floor by means of the movement mechanism (4). The movement mechanism (4) provides reciprocation and rotation movement to the vehicle seat (3). The movement mechanism (4) enables the vehicle seat (3) to move forward- backward, right-left up-down, circularly around its own axis or in a combination of all of these axes. In this embodiment of the invention, the movement mechanism (4) is preferably operated manually. While the movement mechanism (4) can move the vehicle seat (3) when extending the resting unit (2), it can also move the seat only for enhancing driver ' s comfort. The extending member (5), which is used for increasing the usable area of the resting unit (2), is located on the backrest of the vehicle seat (3). While the extending member (5) can be independent from the vehicle seat (3), it can also be a movable part of the vehicle seat (3), or can be concealed in the vehicle seat (3) by means of its folding feature. The extending member (5) is moved by means of the extending mechanism (6) thereby increasing the usable area of the vehicle seat (3). One end of the extending mechanism (6) is connected to the vehicle seat (3) while the other is connected to the extending member (5). The extending mechanism (6) provides a movement of reciprocation, rotation or a combination of the two movements to the extending member (5). In this embodiment of the invention, while the extending mechanism (6) can be moved by manpower, it can also be preferably moved by the help of electricity, pressurized air or vacuum (pneumatic). In order to increase the usable area of the resting unit (2), the extending mechanism (6) moves the extending member (5) thereby enabling it to fit in the holes (2.2) located at the edge of the resting unit (2). The holes (2.2) are formed on the edge of the si de of the resti ng unit (2) near the vehi cl e seat (3) at a geometry that al I ows the extending member (5) to practically fit therein. The resting unit (2) includes an extension (2.1) extending towards between the vehicle seats (3). The holes (2.2) are located on both sides of the extension (2.1). When the extending member (5) fits in the holes (2.2), the two sides of the extension (2.1) are extended as much as the holes (2.2), and the usable area of the resting unit (2) increases. In this embodiment of the invention, the extending member (5) is hollow, and is used as a storage compartment for personal electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablet computers, wearable smart devices, etc. or includes electric circuits.

In another embodiment of the invention, the extending mechanism (6) provides the necessary connections for the electric, hydraulic, pneumatic connections required for movement of the vehicle seat (3) to pass from the cabin to the seat. In another embodiment, these connections operate a seat heater, ventilation system or weight sensor embedded i n the seat. In another embodiment of the invention, the movement mechanism (4) is preferably operated by hydraulic, pneumatic, electric or magnetic forces.

In another preferred embodiment of the invention, when the vehicle seat (3) is being brought to the suitable position in case of extending the resting unit (2), the extending mechanism (6) automatically moves the extending member (5). In other words, when the vehicle seat (3) is being brought to a suitable position, the extending member (5) moves synchronously with the vehicle seat (3) and increases the usable area of the resting unit (2). In another embodiment of the invention, the extending member (5) includes warning lights or an information display wherein the vehicle information will be displayed. The extending member (5) includes thereon controls for in-cabin and vehicle illumination, music-entertainment- information system, air-conditioning /ventilation system, electric or fuel cabin heater, engine block heater. Thus, the person on the resting unit (2) can control the vehicle without having to reach the position where the controls are actually located. In another embodiment of the invention, the electric power used for actuating the movement mechanism (4) or the extending mechanism (6) is generated by an electric generator such as a dynamo, alternator or generator connected to the internal combustion engine. The movement mechanism (4) is operated by the power generated via an electric generator or by the accumulator or batteries of the vehicle storing electric power.

In another embodiment of the invention, the pressurized air power required to operate the movement mechanism (4) is provided by an air compressor connected to the internal combustion engine used for moving the vehicle.

In another preferred embodiment of the invention, a movement path (7) is placed on the backrest of the vehicle seat (3). The extending member (5) is positioned on the movement path (7). The extending member (5) proceeds on the movement path (7) along the movement path (7), and by fitting in the hole (2.2) located on the resting unit (2), increases the usable area of the resting unit (2). The extending member (5) can be moved manually as well as by means of electric, hydraulic or pneumatic systems. Moreover, in the case of extending the resting unit (2), the extending member (5) automatically slides on the movement path (7) synchronously with the movement of the vehicle seat (3).

In another embodiment of the invention, the extending member (5) is hollow and is used as a storage compartment.

In another preferred embodiment of the invention, the extending member (5) is concealed in the resting unit (2). In the case of increasing the usable area of the resting unit (2), the extending member (5) is slidably taken out of the place where it is concealed in the resting unit (2) and is fitted into the hole (2.2). This way the usabl e area of the resti ng uni t ( 2) i s i nc reased. Operation of the resting unit extension system (1) is as follows: When usable area of the resting unit (2) is preferred to be increased, the vehicle seat (3) is brought to the suitable position by means of the movement provided by the movement mechanism (4). Then, the extending member (5) located on the backrest of the vehicle seat (3) is moved by means of the extending mechanism (6) and fitted into the hole (2.2), and the usable area of the resting unit (2) is extended. In another embodiment of the invention, the extending member (5) moves on the movement path (7) located on the backrest of the vehicle seat (3) and fits into the hole (2.2), and thus the usable area of the resting unit (2) is increased.
