Abstract:
Disclosed is a retaining material to be used for a catalyst converter which is provided with: a catalyst carrier which is flat in cross section; a metal casing to contain the catalyst carrier; and the retaining material which is mounted to the catalyst carrier and disposed in the gap between the catalyst carrier and the metal casing. The retaining material for the catalyst converter is provided with: a first portion which is a high-basis-weight portion and positioned in the direction of the short diameter axis of the cross section of the catalyst carrier; a second portion which is a low-basis-weight portion and positioned in the direction of the long diameter axis of the cross section of the catalyst carrier; and the third portion where the basis weight gradually reduces from the first portion toward the second portion.
