Abstract:

[Problem] To provide a retardation film that, while maintaining a high retardation value, has increased durability such as resistance to moist heat, and can prevent the occurrence of color unevenness even if made in a size having a large area. [Solution] The retardation film has a thickness of at least 15 μm and less than 40 μm, has a thickness unevenness both in the widthwise direction and lengthwise direction of 0-4 μm, and has as the primary component a cellulose ester satisfying an Rt moisture fluctuation represented by formula (1) of 1-12%. Formula (1): Rt moisture fluctuation = (value of difference (ΔRt) in retardation (Rt (590) value) in thickness direction represented by formula (ii) measured at a wavelength of 590 nm after film has been left for five hours in each of a 23°C, 20% relative humidity environment and a 23°C, 80% relative humidity environment)/(Rt (590) value measured after film has been left for five hours in a 23°C, 55% relative humidity environment) ×100. Formula (ii): Rt (590) = {nx+ny}/2-nz}×d (where nx is the refractive index in the retardation axis direction in the film plane, ny is the refractive index in a direction perpendicular to the retardation axis direction in the film plane, nz is the refractive index in the thickness direction of the film, and d is the film thickness (nm)).
