Abstract:
A retractable hose central vacuum cleaning system (10) comprising a retractable vacuum hose (12) configured to retract through a valve assembly (14), into a system vacuum pipe (18) responsive to the vacuum communicated from a vacuum source (16). The valve assembly (14) comprising a static valve seal (112) adapted for coupling a system vacuum pipe (18) to the vacuum hose (12) to create a substantially air-tight sealed communication between the system vacuum pipe (18) and the vacuum hose (12). The static valve seal (112) being adjustable from a first unsealed configuration where the vacuum hose (12) can move freely through the valve assembly (14) and system vacuum pipe (18), to a second sealed configuration where the vacuum hose (12) is in sealed communication with a system vacuum pipe (18), and where the vacuum hose (12) is substantially fixed in relative position to the valve assembly (14). Wherein movement from first configuration to the second configuration locks the vacuum hose (12) in place relative to the valve assembly (18).
