Abstract:
This retractable writing instrument 200 comprises: a barrel 203; a cap 209 which has a knock cam 230 and can be fitted onto a rear end portion of the barrel 203; a rotating element 240 which is biased rearward inside the barrel 203; and an external cam 220 which is provided on the inner surface of the barrel 203. The retractable writing instrument 200: is configured such that the knock cam 230 and the external cam 220 co-operate with the rotating element 240 and rotate the rotating element 240; can be switched between a writing state in which the rotating element 240 is engaged with the external cam 220, and a non-writing state in which the rotating element 240 is disengaged from the external cam 220; and is configured such that when the rear end portion of the barrel 203 is inserted into the cap 209, the knock cam 230 pushes the rotating element 240 and causes the rotating element 240 to move forwards and rotate, the rotation of the rotating element 240 is restricted by contact with the knock cam 230 in the circumferential direction, and the rotating element 240 engages with the external cam 220 to switch to the writing state.
