Description:
REVERSE GEAR MANEUVER LIGHTING SYSTEM AND METHOD Technical Field

The invention relates to back up lights located in the back of the vehicles.

The invention relates especially to auxiliary lighting members that are used during backing up in vehicles utilized in the transportation of heavy and large size cargo such as trailers and semi-trailers.

Prior Art

Trailers are vehicles designed for carrying cargo and goods and towed by a tow truck. Lighting and light device systems conforming to the legal legislation of the countries must be present in these trailers. Trailers are supplied with the electrical power required for the lighting system from the tow trucks; therefore, there exists an electrical connection for the lighting system between the tow truck and the semi-trailer. In these trailers, the need for using back up lights that are mandatory as per the legal legislation of the countries occurs. These lamps operate with the signals coming from the tow truck during backing up. In prior art, the visibility of the point to move in the reverse direction is rather low in a trailer which is maneuvering in the reverse direction (for example, in a 90-degree turn at a parking lot). While the trailer is going in the reverse direction, back up light devices located in the back illuminate the back area in parallel with the bumper, not the area which the trailer will move.

In the present technique, the patent document numbered US2016016507 (A1 ) additional lighting device placed on the rear view mirror of the vehicle is mentioned. This device becomes active during backing up and provides an increase in the illumination, especially during night driving. However, in this document, the positioning of auxiliary lighting next to other back up lights is not mentioned.

Consequently, it has been deemed necessary to perform improvement in the related technical field due to the unfavorableness described above and the inadequacy of the existing solutions about the subject. The Object of the Invention

The invention is inspired by the existing situations and aims at solving the above- mentioned unfavorableness.

The main object of the invention is to enlarge the rear illumination area so as to include the area in which the vehicles are maneuvering during backing up.

In order to meet the purposes described above, the system of the invention includes the following in its most basic form: at least one right back up light (1 ) and at least one left back up light (2) which illuminate the back of the vehicle when the vehicle gearbox is shifted to reverse position; also auxiliary right back up light (3) which illuminates the back of the vehicle when the vehicle maneuvers in the right direction with the gearbox in reverse position and left back up light (4) which illuminates the back of the vehicle when the vehicle maneuvers in the left direction; electronic control unit (6) which transmits signals for turning the right back up light (3) or the left back up light (4) in the direction of the maneuver based on the detector (5) which determines that the vehicle is performing a rightward or leftward maneuver and the maneuvering information coming from the detector (5). The electronic control unit (6) turns on the auxiliary right back up light (3) if the maneuver is toward the right when the detector (5) determines a maneuver over a certain value while the vehicle gearbox is in the reverse position. Similarly, if the maneuver is toward the left side, then it turns on the auxiliary left back up light (4).

Structural and characteristic features and all advantages of the invention will be understood more clearly through the figures provided below and by references made to these figures; and therefore, it is required to make evaluations by considering these figures and detailed description.

Detailed Description of the Invention

In this detailed description, the reverse gear maneuver illumination system and its method are described with the aim of a better understanding of the subject matter.

In Figure 1 , schematic view of the system of the invention is provided. Accordingly, the said system includes the following in its most basic form;

• At least one right back up light (1 ) which illuminates the back of the vehicle when the vehicle gearbox is shifted to reverse position,

• At least one left back up light (2) which illuminates the back of the vehicle when the vehicle gearbox is shifted to reverse position,

• Auxiliary right back up light (3) which illuminates the back of the vehicle when the vehicle maneuvers in the right direction with the vehicle gearbox in reverse position,

• Auxiliary left back up light (4) which illuminates the back of the vehicle when the vehicle maneuvers in the left direction with the vehicle gearbox in reverse position,

• Detector (5) which determines that the vehicle is performing a rightward or leftward maneuver; and • An electronic control unit (6) which transmits signals for turning the right back up light (3) or the left back up light (4) in the direction of the maneuver based on the maneuvering information coming from the detector (5)

In Figure 2, view of the back illumination without maneuvering when the vehicle is in reverse gear position is provided. With the auxiliary right back up light (3), which is positioned crosswise at the back of the vehicle, turning on when the vehicle performs rightward maneuvering, illumination including blind spots can be done as in Figure 3. Similarly, in Figure 4, view of the illumination with the auxiliary left back up light (4), which is positioned crosswise at the back of the vehicle, turning on when the vehicle performs leftward maneuvering is provided.

The detector included in the system of the invention can be of many different kinds. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the said detector (5) is king pin angle sensor. In another embodiment of the invention, the said detector (5) is tachometers located at the right and left wheels of the vehicle. By evaluating the information coming from the tachometers in the electronic control unit (6), it can be understood which direction the vehicle is maneuvering depending on the difference.

The operating principle of an exemplary embodiment of the invention is as follows:

In Figure 5, a flow chart belonging to an exemplary embodiment of the method of the invention is provided. Accordingly, the electronic control unit (6) determines the maneuvering direction during backing up based on the information it has received from the detector (5). In the preferred embodiment of the invention, if the maximum number of back up lights are already operating, then the electronic control unit (6) turns off one left back up light (1) in case of rightward maneuvering. Similarly, it turns off one right back up light (2) in case of leftward maneuvering.
