Abstract:

In a reversible water electrolysis system and a method for operating same, the reversible water electrolysis system includes a reversible water electrolysis fuel cell, a first heat exchanger, a steam supply channel, a water discharge unit, and a pump. The fuel cell includes a hydrogen electrode, an air electrode, and an electrolyte interposed therebetween, and is operable in one of a water electrolytic mode and a fuel cell mode. The first heat exchanger performs heat exchange between hydrogen supplied to the hydrogen electrode and first exhaust gas discharged from the hydrogen electrode. The steam supply channel supplies steam to the hydrogen electrode. The water discharge unit removes water from the first exhaust gas. The pump is installed in a water discharge channel of the water discharge unit so as to pump the water to the outside. In this case, the operation of the pump is controlled such that pressure difference between an entrance of the hydrogen electrode and an entrance of the air electrode is maintained within a predetermined range.
