Abstract:
Provided is a rice panicle traits regulatory gene PT2 and an application thereof. The nucleic acid sequence of the gene PT2 is shown in SEQ ID NO.1, being capable of controlling panicle traits including grain shape, 1000-grain weight, ear length and grain shattering trait. Also provided are the gene PT2 alleles named pt2-J and pt2-I, having nucleic acid sequences as shown in SEQ ID NO.3 and SEQ ID NO.5 respectively. The gene PT2 and its alleles can be used in breeding of new plant varieties and decreasing rice grain shattering in order to reduce losses in mechanized harvesting process, and also can be used in breeding of other plant new varieties such as corn, sorghum, etc.
