Description:
TRANSLATION (RUEL 12.3) 05 OCT. 17

ROAD SIGNALLING DEVICE.

The present invention relates to a road signalling device.

In particular, the present invention is advantageously applied to signal the presence of a pedestrian crossing to vehicles moving along a roadway in places or centres of residence, the description of which will make explicit reference to without losing its generality.

As is well known, along the roadways of centres of residence there are crossing areas devoted to pedestrian crossing from one side to the other side of the same roadway, usually to reach the sidewalk on the opposite side.

Normally, such crossing areas are defined by white-coloured pedestrian stripes drawn on the asphalt of the roadways transversely to the direction of travel on the roadways themselves, or white stripes drawn on the asphalt whose background is coloured with a more visible colour (usually red or green) and possibly the background also serves as an arrow to indicate where to look before crossing, or pedestrian stripes raised by artificial bumps, or protected by artificial bumps, or finally pedestrian stripes associated to special traffic lights located near the same crossing areas.

It is frequently the case that such areas, along the roadways, are poorly signalled in advance and/or lit, with the consequent and remarkably severe risk that drivers of vehicles in transit on roadways will only notice at the last moment the presence of pedestrians crossing along said pedestrian stripes.

The object of the present invention is therefore to overcome the remarkably severe and dangerous drawback of the above-mentioned prior art.

In particular, the object of the present invention is to provide a device capable of signalling in advance and in the best possible way the presence of pedestrians crossing the roadways to vehicle drivers.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a road signalling device that is consistently efficient during both night and daytime hours.

The structural and functional features of the present invention and its advantages over the known art will become even clearer and more evident from the claims below, and in particular from an examination of the description that follows, made with reference to the attached schematic drawings, and related to some preferred but non-limiting embodiments of a road signalling device, wherein:

- Figures 1 a, 1 b, and 1 c show in respective front forward, side and front rearward views a preferred but non-limiting embodiment of the signalling device in question;

Figure 2 shows a top plan view of the device of Figure 1 applied along a roadway and highlighting a component forming part of the device itself; - Figure 2a shows in section a lateral portion of the roadway with the component of Figure 2 fixed to it; and

Figure 3 shows a front forward view of a variant of the device of Figure 1 . With reference to Figures 1 a-1 c and 2, D generally indicates a signalling device for signalling the presence of a pedestrian crossing AP to vehicles passing along a roadway CS in places or centres of residence.

The device D comprises a pole 1 adapted to be vertically fixed to at least one of the non-transitable sides L of the roadway CS, which pole 1 carries at least one luminous signalling panel 2, preferably flashing, capable of showing and informing in advance the driver of a vehicle V along the roadway CS of the clear presence of a pedestrian crossing AP, and also, secured to the top V of the pole 1 itself, a power supply unit 3 of the panel 2, preferably but not limited to, of the type with photovoltaic panels.

As illustrated in Figures 2 and 2a, the device D further comprises a platform 4 adapted to be fixed to the ground, above road height, of both non-transitable sides L of the roadway CS at said pedestrian crossing AP.

This platform 4 is preferably connected wirelessly to said panel 2 and, in use, is adapted to be walked upon by the pedestrian (not shown) immediately prior to approaching the pedestrian crossing AP so as to enable subsequent lighting of the luminous panel 2 to signal effectively and optimally to the driver of vehicle V the subsequent presence of the pedestrian crossing the roadway, so that the same driver can immediately prepare himself to braking and the subsequent approach with the utmost care and safety.

According to the variant shown in Figure 3, the pole 1 is also provided with a street light 5, preferably of LED, suitable to illuminate the pedestrian strips of said AP crossing especially during night hours and/or with a push-to-walk button panel 6, preferably with an audible alarm 7 for visually impaired pedestrians.
