Abstract:
A roll assembly changing method, comprising the steps of providing a side shift type roll assembly changing device (1) of a prior art on upper and lower work rolls (11, 12) and an upper intermediate roll (13), providing a side shifter (5) on a lower intermediate roll (14) on the lower side of a floor surface (101), when the lower intermediate roll is changed, lowering the lower intermediate roll (14) below a running floor surface (101) for a running carriage (2) by a lifting device (28a) of the side shifter (5) for lower intermediate roll after the lower intermediate roll (14) is connected to the running carriage (2) and extracted, replacing the used lower intermediate roll with a new lower intermediate roll by a side shift in a space positioned under the floor surface, raising the new lower intermediate roll by the lifting device (28a), and pressing the new lower intermediate roll into a rolling mill by the running carriage (2), whereby a rolling mill can be remodeled from a 4-stage rolling mill to a 6-stage one without changing the running floor surface height of the roll assembly changing device from that before remodeling and without almost digging the front of the operation side of the rolling mill.
