Roll grinding techniques involving a grinding wheel which grinds a rolling roll, characterized in that the rotating center axes of the rolling roll and the grinding wheel are disposed so that they are present on one plane, on the extension of the rotating center axis of the grinding wheel and the rotating center axis of the rolling roll are disposed so that they cross each other, on the rotating center axis of the grinding wheel is disposed so that it is not offset relative to the rotating center axis of the rolling roll, on a device for moving the roll grinding device about the rotating center axis of the rolling roll is provided so as to adjust an angle of the grinding wheel relative to a vertical plane, or a follow-up device to follow up the roll grinding device is provided on the rotating center axis of the rolling roll so that the rotating center axis of the rolling roll and the rotating center axis of the grinding wheel are present on one plane during grinding, whereby the inclination of a grinding surface can be reduced so as to increase the quality of the surface of a rolling material.
