Abstract:
A rotary actuator comprises a stator having a plurality of permanent magnets (1a, 1b), a rotor having a rotor core (3) formed with a plurality of salient poles (3a, 3a) and a rotor coil (5) wound on the rotor core (3), a magnetic torque generating section (A) for generating a torque between the rotor and the stator by passing an electric current through the rotor coil (5), the generated torque being substantially proportional to the electric current passed, and a coil spring (36) adapted to have applied thereto the magnetic torque generated between the rotor and the stator and to be deformed by an amount substantially proportional to the magnitude of the magnetic torque. Thereby, when an exciting current is supplied to the rotor, a magnetic torque substantially proportional to the current is generated between the rotor and the stator to deform the coil spring (36), and the rotor is stopped at an angular position such that the generated magnetic torque coincides with an opposite torque produced by the coil spring (36).
