Abstract:
The present invention provides a rotary input device capable of determining a rotation direction by accurately detecting a change in capacitance even when a signal component representing the change in capacitance is close to an offset component variation. A detection signal generating unit 110 generates a detection signal according to the sum of charges stored in a first variable capacitor VC1 and a second variable capacitor VC2 due to a pulse voltage supply. In addition, when a three-step rotation is performed in an operation unit 10, a detection signal is generated which has a median value between a detection signal at a stop location of the first variable capacitor VC1 and a detection signal at a stop location of the second variable capacitor VC2, in a stop location of a third step in which there is not a variable capacitor. A signal processing unit 120 determines the rotation direction of the operation unit 10 on the basis of a detection signal change corresponding to a change in the capacitance of a variable capacitor VC.
