Provided is rotary sensor the life of which can be extended. A rotor sensor (1) is provided with a housing (2) which is connected to a vehicle body (B); a rotor (3) which is mounted in such a way as to be rotatable with respect to the housing (2), and rotates with respect to the housing (2) in conjunction with the rotation of a kickstand (S) with respect to the vehicle body (B); an object to be detected (36) which is made of an electrically conductive material, and is held by the rotor (3); a coil (81) which is held by the housing (2), and the distance between which and the object to be detected (36) is changed in conjunction with the rotation of the rotor (3) with respect to the housing (2); and a detection circuit (82) which, on the basis of the impedance of the coil (81), detects the direction of the kickstand (S) with respect to the vehicle body (B). Since the coil (81) and the object to be detected (36) do not come into contact with each other, degradation due to friction, which occurs in the case of a contact point, does not take place. Therefore, it is possible to extend the life, compared to a case where a contact point is used.
