Abstract:
[Problem] Conventional rotary toothbrushes simply rotate back and forth and from side to side on the surfaces of teeth when brushing teeth. Furthermore, as a result of a sheet of brush material being fitted between a pair of left and right bearing plates on which said brush material is mounted so as not to move left and right, residues that enter gaps in the brush material are difficult to remove during rinsing. [Solution] Provided is a rotary toothbrush provided with a ratchet mechanism that allows, as a result of the interaction between a catch provided to the tip of a polygonal-shaped rotary shaft on which a brush material is mounted and a semi-circular protrusion on a guide plate bottom section provided on the inside of a pair of left and right bearing plates of a shank part, rotation when a fixed frictional resistance is overcome when brushing in the forward direction, but does not allow rotation when brushing in the backward direction. Furthermore, by reversing the direction of the protrusion and the catch, the ratchet mechanism does not allow rotation when brushing in the forward direction, but allows rotation when brushing in the backward direction.
