Abstract:
A rotation angle detector (100) includes: a rotation angular velocity calculation unit (31) for calculating the rotation angular velocity (ω) of an electric motor (10) on the basis of detection results from a voltage detection unit (10a) and a current detection unit (10b); a ripple detection unit (RD) for detecting a ripple component (Ir) which is included in a current (Im) flowing through the electric motor (10); and a failure detection unit (38) for detecting a failure in any unit among the voltage detection unit (10a), the current detection unit (10b) and the ripple detection unit (RD). When the output from two units among the voltage detection unit (10a), the current detection unit (10b) and the ripple detection unit (RD) indicate normal rotations and the output from the remaining unit continues not to indicate normal rotations for a prescribed interval of time, the failure detection unit (38) determines that the remaining unit has failed.
