Abstract:
A rotation angle detector having a main rotating body attached to an object whose
rotation is to be detected and rotating together with the object; an auxiliary
rotating body rotating at a predetermined ratio of rotation relative to the rotation
of the main rotating body; a main rotation detection mechanism for outputting
a signal changing cyclically corresponding to the rotation of the main rotating
body; an auxiliary rotation detection mechanism for outputting a signal changing
cyclically corresponding to the rotation of the auxiliary rotating body; signal
processing means for calculating the rotation angles of the main and auxiliary
rotating bodies by using the signals outputted from the main and auxiliary rotation
detection mechanisms; and calculation and processing means for calculating
the rotation angle of the object based on the calculated rotation angle of either
the main or auxiliary rotating body and on the relative rotation angle between
the main and auxiliary rotating bodies. At least one of the following signals
(A-D) has a cycle that is different from a one cycle per rotation fashion of the
main or auxiliary rotating body: (A) output signal of the main rotation detection
mechanism, (B) output signal of the auxiliary rotation detection mechanism,
(C) input signal from the main rotation detection mechanism which signal is processed
by the signal processing means, and (D) input signal from the auxiliary rotation
detection mechanism which signal is processed by the signal processing means.
