Abstract:

Provided is a friction-stir joining tool (1) that has excellent anti-friction properties and high joining strength even when the joining is between materials that are difficult to join. This friction-stir joining tool (1) is a tool used for friction-stir joining and is characterized by: containing a substrate (4); the substrate (4) containing a hard phase and a binder phase; the hard phase containing TiCN; the binder phase comprising an iron group metal; and the mass ratio (Bs) of the binder phase in the region less than or equal to 20μm from the surface of the substrate (4) to the substrate (4) being smaller than the mass ratio (Bi) of the binder phase in the region more than 20μm from the surface of the substrate (4) to the substrate (4).
