Abstract:

This rubber composition for tennis balls contains a base rubber and a filler that has a degree of flatness DL of at least 50 obtained by dividing the average particle diameter D50 (μm) thereof by the average thickness T (μm) thereof. The amount of said filler with respect to 100 parts by mass of said base rubber is between 1 part by mass and 150 parts by mass, inclusive. The gas permeability coefficient GPS and the loss tangent tanδS of said rubber composition and the gas permeability coefficient GPL and the loss tangent tanδL of a rubber composition obtained by substituting said filler with kaolin clay having a degree of flatness DL of 20 satisfy formula (1): GPL / GPS ≥ 1.02 and formula (2): | tanδL-tanδS | ≤ 0.03. A tennis ball 2 comprises a core 4 that is formed by using said rubber composition, a felt section 6 that covers said core 4, and a seam section 8.
