Abstract:
A sliding component consisting of a Pb-free Cu-Bi type sintered material, the surface of which to be brought into contact with a mating shaft is finished by machining so as to exhibit a prescribed roughness and in which many Bi phases are present on the finished surface, wherein the performance of Bi is exerted stably. The machining causes some of the Bi phases to be covered with the sintered material, and the total area fraction of exposed Bi phases accounts for at least 0.5% of the finished surface.
