Provided is a safe-end welding method for welding a pipe base (5) and a safe end (10), wherein said method comprises a welding step in which a groove section (K) is formed between the pipe base (5) and the safe end (10) by bringing a pipe base side protrusion part (71) protruding from the end face of the pipe base (5) into contact with a safe-end side protrusion part (72) protruding from the end face of the safe end (10), the length (L1) of the pipe base side protrusion part (71) in the direction of protrusion is set to be longer than the length (L2) of the safe-end side protrusion part (72) in the direction of protrusion, and welding is performed on the groove section (K) in a state in which the pipe base (5) is positioned at the upper side in the vertical direction and the safe-end pipe (10) is positioned at the lower side in the vertical direction. In the welding step, a welding wire used for welding the groove section (K) is formed of the same material as that used to form the pipe base side protrusion part (71).
