Abstract:
A safety device (10) for catching and/ or breaking the fall of a fragment of rock falling from a region of a hanging wall located between support and/or anchor means in the form of roof supports (16.1 and 16.2), the device including a mesh (18) configured to be anchored by and span between two or more roof supports (16.1 and 16.2) located underneath the hanging wall (14), wherein the apertures (20) of the mesh (18) are selected to be smaller than said fragments of rock. The mesh (18) is manufactured from high density polyethylene in which a flame retardant is included.
