Abstract:
A safety device applicable to a wide range, having a small size, causing little voltage loss, and hardly malfunctioning. In the safety device and an overcurrent cut-off system using the same, the power supply and the load are connected to two power supply lines, and a trip unit composed of a normally-closed switch and a latching relay device is disposed in an intermediate portion of one of the power supply lines. In the safety device, terminals connected to a resistor are connected to the wires led out from both ends of a section having a predetermined wiring resistance of one power supply line, and a shunt current of this section flows through the resistor. Since the resistor has an extremely small resistance, the shunt current of the current flowing through the load does not generate heat. However, if a short-circuit occurs, the voltage drop at this section increases, and the shunt current corresponding to this voltage drop flows through the resistor to cause the resistor to generate heat. Then a thermal acting body acts to close contacts, the latching relay device acts, the latch of the normally-closed switch is opened to open the normally-closed switch, and the power supply current is cut off.
