A safety device of a press, comprising a finger guard (43) vertically moved between metal molds, a holder (45) holding the guard (43) and rotatably supported on a frame body through a first shaft (A), a drive lever (47) rotatably supported on a second shaft (B) installed nearer the guard (43) than the first shaft, a stopper pin (49) formed nearer the guard (43) than the second shaft (B), a slot (51) formed in the lever (47), allowing the pin (49) to be inserted therein to allow the rotation of the lever (47) relative to the holder (45) about the second shaft (B), and limiting the relative rotation within a specified range, a first spring (53) energizing the portion of the lever (47) nearer the guard (43) than the second shaft (B) to the upper limit position side of the guard (43), a connecting rod (55) connected to the portion of the lever (47) nearer the guard (43) than the second shaft (B), a tension rod (59) connected to an operating member for operating a rod (55), and a normal state detection switch (SW2) operated only in normal state when the pin (49) is positioned at the lower end side of the slot (51) to allow a drive force to be transmitted from a power source to a plunger.
