Abstract:
A safety switch comprises a housing containing electrical contacts movable from a power supply OFF position to a power supply ON position by rotation of an actuating cam assembly. An actuator of a predetermined configuration is insertable within the housing to rotate the cam assembly, causing movement of a cam plunger which moves the electrical contacts between the on and off positions. Locking members are actuable by a sliding plate operated by a solenoid which is controlled by a control button. In a locked position the locking members engage the plunger such that when an attempt is made to withdraw the actuator from the switch movement of the cam plunger and consequent cam rotation is prevented. In an unlocked position the locking members are pivoted by energising the solenoid to release the cam plunger and thereby to allow withdrawal of the actuator.
