Description:
SAFETY TIRE

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a novel tire, more specifically, to a tire comprising multiple air chambers to guarantee the safety in traffic accident, by minimizing or limiting the loss of air caused by tire puncture.

Description of the Prior Art

Tire puncture is a primary cause of traffic accidents including rollover accident frequently happened in travelling cars, grounded on the increase of partial frictional resistance or the unbalance of cars caused by the abrupt loss of air.

To solve the safety problem, a steel radial tire employing interior steel velts in the body has been offered; however, it can not protect side wall of tire and satisfy the driver's desire for comfort in travelling.

In this regard, a tire having protecting bar positioned at the space between air chamber and body to protect wheel tread and side wall have been suggested; however, it can not protect the air chamber from sharp particles, since the protecting bar is made of U-shaped smooth rubber or textile.

A tire employing two radial air chambers positioned at the inner side of body has been proposed; however, it also can not practically be applied in the art, because two air chambers are insufficient to protect the tire from the puncture.

Accordingly, none of these prior art tires have solved the safety problem caused by the tire puncture, because of their structural limitation; and, needs have continued to exist for the development of a safety tire of characteristic structure to guarantee the safety in traffic accident.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In accordance with the present invention, the inventor developed a novel tire whose air chamber is compartmentalized by septa and separating barrier to provide multiple independent air chambers, to guarantee the safety in traffic accident, based on the distribution of air among the air chambers.

A primary object of the invention is, therefore, to provide a tire for safety of novel structure. The tire of the invention employes its characteristic structure minimizing or limiting the loss of air caused by tire puncture, whereby maintains its basic function as a tire and sucessfully solves the safety problem in traffic accident.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The above object and features of the present invention will become apparent from the following descriptions given in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view of the main part of the safety tire; Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of the main part the safety tire; Figure 3 is a partial perspective view of the safety tire; and. Figures 4(A) and 4(B) are longitudinal cross-sectional views showing gradual expansion of the safety tire according to air infusion.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In describing the tire of the invention, the term "safety tire" is employed to mean the tire designed by the inventor to

guarantee the safety of drivers in traffic accident.

To accomplish the object of the invention, the safety tire of the invention comprises: separating barrier(2) compartmentalizing the body(l) of tire; multiple septa(5)(5') positioned at the space between the inner part of said body(l) and separating barrier(2) ; auxiliary tube(3) located at the lower part of said separating barrier; air chambers(6) having air inlet(7) fixed to the septa; and, doublet air inlet part(8) communicated with said air chambers(6) and auxiliary tube(3). FIGs. 1 and 2 are cross-sectional views of inner part of the tire of the invention, depicting that the inner part of the tire is compartmentalized into separating barrier(2) whose lower part is supported by auxiliary tube(3).

Referring to FIGs. 1 and'2, cavity(4) is provided between the separating barrier(2) and auxiliary tube(3) , and septa (5) (5') are positioned at the space between the separating barrier(2) and the inner part of body(l) in an equal interval, to provide multiple independent air chambers(6). Air inlet(7) is adjusted at the lower part of the air chamber(6) , i.e., on the separating barrier(2) .

FIG. 3 is a partial perspective view of the tire of the invention.

Referring to FIG. 3, doublet air inlet part(8) consisting of inner and outer tube(8a) (8b) is positioned at one side of the inner part of the body(l) . Inner tube(8a) is directly communicated with auxiliary tube(3) and outer tube(8b) is communicated with air chamber(6) , passing through the cavity(4) and air inlet(7), respectively. Valves(9) (9') fixed to the doublet air inlet part(8) are employed to meet their nonreturn function.

In accordance with the invention, the body(l) of the tire is generally the same as those of conventional tires, except that the bodies lacking elasticity are preferably employed in the safety tire. Base material of the auxiliary tube(3) is preferably selected from the materials of very thin, tough and

favorable expansion.

Expansion of tire according to air infusion is diagramatically illustrated in FIGs. 4(A) and 4(B).

Referring to FIG. 4(A), air infusion into the air chamber(6) through the cavity(4) and air inlet(7) is carried out, by opening the valve(9') installed at the outer tube(8b) of the doublet air infusion part(8) , which is the first air infusion means for proper infusion of air into the air chamber.

Under the closed state of valve(9) of the inner tube(8a) which is communicated with the auxiliary tube(3), air infusion into the air chamber(6) is followed by the secondary air infusion means for expansion of the auxiliary tube(3) through the inner tube(8a) , where air infusion is initiated by opening the valve(9) of the inner tube(8a) under the closed state of valve(9') of the outer tube(8b) .

Referring to FIG. 4(B), the air inlet(7) installed at each air chamber(6) become closed state according to gradual expansion of the auxiliary tube(3) through the air infusion, along with the close adhesion to separating barrier(2) . In the first air infusion, the attention should be paid to control the amount of air required in each air chamber(6) , because expansion of auxiliary tube(3) may be obstructed, if the amount of air infusion exceeds over the proper amount required and, closing of air inlet(7) by auxiliary tube(3) may be disturbed, grounded on the corresponding increase in air pressure.

Accordingly, precise control of air amount infused into each air chamber(6) is critical to accomplish the object of the invention, which may be tided over by infusing the air amount pre-calculated in accordance with the size of the tire. First air infusion provides balanced air pressure in the air chamber(6) and cavity(4) , and the cavity(4) become narrowed by the expansion of auxiliary tube(3) by the secondary air infusion. Further, air equivalent to the volume of the narrowed cavity(4) is effused into the air chamber(6) , and air pressure of the air chamber(6) become gradually elevated to the

optimum level, under the closed state of air inlet(7) by complete expansion of the auxiliary tube(3) .

As clearly illustrated as aboves, the present invention provides a safety tire employing multiple air chambers, based on its characteristic structure and doublet air infusion system to guarantee the safety of drivers in travelling cars. In accordance with the safety tire of the invention, puncture in one air chamber results in loss of extremely small portion of the tire air, since only one air chamber punctured is lost in case of tire puncture; and, therefore, the dangerous state of biased center of weight can be properly prohibited.

While the present invention has been shown and described with reference to the particular embodiments, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that many changes and modifications in size, shape and materials, as well as in the details of illustrated structural integrations, may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
