Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1982/002868
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A sales packing for branded lingerie articles comprises an outer box member made of two rigid box forming elements, of which one is transparent and the other non-transparent, and an interior wrapping about the article to be sold. The printing identifying the branded article is placed on the wrapping so as to be visible through a transparent portion of the box. The box, which is thus usable as a standard for many different branded goods, is made from die cast plastics so as to be a rigid unit which is pilable in a safe manner. Preferably the box itself is designed almost as the known standard audio tape cassette casings, which are found advantageously usable for the packing of soft lingerie articles.

Description:
A sales packing for light articles of clothing, particularly lingerie articles, or other light, branded goods for personal use.

The invention relates to a sales packing for light articles of clothing, preferably hosiery or lingerie articles, or other light, branded goods for personal use. Such goods are normally packed in carton boxes or plastic ( ' ) 5 sheet bags, i.e. packings serving both to protect the articles and to carry the necessary printing for identi¬ fying the branded goods. It is customary that for each large series of articles, e.g. scanties, a specially designed or printed carton box or plastic bag is prepared 10 as the related characteristic packing to be used in amounts corresponding to the production of the article or at least to the off factory sale of the article as long as it is being sold under the trade mark as printed on the packing. 15 Carton boxes and of course especially printed carton boxes are expensive, and plastic bags, which are cheaper, ( " " ') suffer from other disadvantages, a.o. that they are likely to force the retail dealer to make use of special sales racks or suspension devices for presenting the sales 20 packings in an orderly manner.

It is the purpose of the invention to provide an improved sales packing for articles of the above specified t yP e ' ' primarily lingerie articles, which is both cheap and advantageous in several respects. 25 According to the invention there is provided a sales packing as defined in the characterizing clause of claim 1.

Such a sales packing will show a row of advantages: 1) For sizes as small as necessary for the packing 30 of light lingerie articles such as scanties, hosiery

articles or handkerchieves a rigid walled plastic box is produceable at a price lower than for a corresponding carton box when large series are concerned.

2) The plastic box member itself may be produced in extremely large series irrespectively of the expected sale of the single branded article, because the same box member will always be usable for some other branded article.

3) The identification printing appears on a label which does not form part of the box member structure, i.e. the carrier of the printing can be a very inexpensive packing portion which is generally inexpensive even when prepared in an overlarge number.

4) The rigid sales boxes will not require any special display devices, because they are pilable on each other with a high piling stability,

5} A sales box member of any given size will be usable for different branded articles, .which in packed condition range- between almost filling out the innet - space of the box member and being more or less compacted in this space, because a reasonable compaction of the article inside the box will not (as in carton boxes) affect the planar configuration of the box sides, whereby the sales boxes will still be pilable on each other in a stable manner. 6) When the box member consists of two closable and _ openable rigid parts the handling thereof will generally be as easy as possible both in a closing station in the factory and by the final customer's opening of the pack¬ age, According to claim 2 the said label may form part of a wrapping about the packed article, whereby further advantages are obtained.

7) The wrapping, which may still consist of a very inexpensive material such as strong paper, may be applied to or about the single article in an easy manner already at the end of a production line, for the article, whereafter

the output of several production lines for different articles may be fed to a common packing station, in which the articles are all packed in the same type of sales box member, without the single articles loosing their branded 5 identity in the final products.

8) A wrapping as provided all about a compressible article unit will contribute to an easy handling of the article in connection with the packing thereof in a rigid box member, because the closed inexpensive wrapping may

10 confine the compressible article to a size which is easily introduceable into the box.

9) A wrapping generally enclosing the article perhaps exept for one pair of opposed end surfaces will be indicat¬ ive of an industrial packing of the article as distinguish-

15 ed from a mere forcing the article itself into the inside of the box member.

10) In case of a temporary shortage of the box members it may be decided in the factory which articles should proceed to final packaging and delivery, while

20 other articles may still be produced to the stock fully ready to be put into neutral standard box members as soon as these are again available as required. n According to claim 3 the advantage is obtainable that

11 ) The colour or structure of the specific- branded 25 article is readily visible at each single packing while otherwise the article is fully enclosed by the packing.

It is to be admitted that packings of a type similar to the invention are known from one specific field, viz. audio and video tape cassette casings which are, however,

30 considered to be entirely non pertinent for the packaging of branded lingerie articles. These tape cassette casings on the other hand, are perfectly usable for the special purpose of the invention, provided they do not show any material portions restricting the available inner space

35 of the box members. In usual audio tape standard cassettes special reel centering pins are provided on one of the two

box member parts, and in a box member according to the invention no such pins should be provided. Otherwise a box construction similar to the standard audio tape cassette casings will be highly advantageous because: 12) The.appearance of the- sales packing for e.g. scanties will be the same as the popular packings other¬ wise used for audio or video tapes,

13) The standard tape cassette casings comprise a box member portion shaped with a bottom pocket portion which is extremely well suited to receive one edge portion of a flat package consisting of a lingerie article as wrapped in an inexpensive, printed wrapping,

14) The production of the box member is made extra inexpensive by the fact that almost similar box members ,are already produced at large numbers for a highly deviating purpose, whereby an already existing die mould for the production of tape cassette casings is easily adaptable to the requirements of the invention-, because the mould details providing for the said center pins can simply be removed for a following production of box members according to the invention,

15) The said flat package will be soft and bendable, and even if it is to some degree clamped in the said edge pocket and disposed tightly along the inner side of the respective box element, the customer may easily get hold of the package anyway, for pulling it out from the pocket, because the free end thereof can be bent outwardly from the box side so as to be firmly grippable,

16) If desired, a special sales rack for packings according to the invention may be constituted by already existing or available cheap standard racks for receiving the said standard tape cassette casings for private or professional use.

In the following the invention is described in more detail with reference to the drawing, in which

packing.

In Fig. 1 is shown an open box member 2 of the audio tape- cassette casing type comprising a holding portion 4 made of transparent material and hinged to a cover portion 5 6 made of non-transparent material, both portions being produced by die casting of a suitable plastics. The holding portion has a broad box side 8 and a narrow box side 10, the latter having a short extension 12 flush with the broad side 14 of the cover portion 6. 10 A lingerie article 16 to be packed is provided with i'. > a simple paper wrapping 18 of strong paper on which the desired printing appears, and this sub packing is placed edgewise in the pocket formed of the parts 8, 10 and 12, whereafter the box is closed. The closing may be rein- 15 forced by a piece of adhesive tape should this be. necessary if the article 16 is bulky.

As shown in Fig. 2 the wrapping 18 may have a hole 20 in the narrow side adjacent the side 10 of the box, where¬ by the colour of the article is visible from outside. 20 The ends of the sub packing 16, 18 are uncovered by the wrapping 18, but in the sales packing they will be covered by the non-transparent end panels of the cover portion 6.
